Southern Alberta Supportive Services (SASS) is an Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS) accredited social services agency working with PDD eligible adults, including those diagnosed or suspected of living with FASD.
The idea for a specialized service agency came to life when its founders, who were working in a similar program noticed many of the individuals served were as likely to be offenders within the Criminal Justice System as they were to be the victims of a crime. Supports for those individuals were often identical to those who had never been involved with the Criminal Justice System; offering little or no official protocol for supporting multi-dimensional individuals who had or continued to be involved in the Criminal Justice System.
After much collaboration with colleagues in the field, the idea of a more effective, appropriate, community support service program was born.
